Subject:     WISE Reporting - Drinking Water Directive

According to Article 13 of the Drinking Water Directive 98/83/EC, Member States have the obligation to send a report every three years on the quality of water intended for human consumption.

For the reporting period 2014 – 2016, most Member States already reported their data. If you have not already done so, you are invited to send us your data at the latest by 28 September 2018.

Please find below further details on the data delivery to the Commission:

At the Expert Group meeting of 22 September 2016 the Commission and the Member States agreed on maintaining the data requirements unchanged to the previous period 2011-2013 (data request Ref. Ares(2014)3215034 - 30/09/2014).

The guidance document [1] of September 2014 on reporting under the Drinking Water Directive 98/83/EC is available at the Eionet Forum, DWD data request 2014 folder. All the documents remain unchanged since the last DWD reporting. The reporting template with all additional information is available at the Eionet Data Dictionary (DD).

Reporting under the Directive will be carried out by uploading data via Reportnet [2] (the European Environment Agency's electronic infrastructure for data collection). The guidance document on how to use Reportnet under the Drinking Water Directive is available at the Eionet Forum, DWD data request 2014 folder.

All data files should be uploaded to the Central Data Repository (CDR). Drinking Water Directive folders are already available from the previous reporting in your national folder under the section ‘European Union (EU) obligations’/’Drinking Water Directive Report (98/83/EC)’ (link to the CDR; link to the CDR folder for France as an example).

In case of problems or any other technical difficulties with Eionet web services, please contact DWD Helpdesk - dwd.helpdesk@eionet.europa.eu.

The EEA and the Commission will be supported by a contractor for assistance as regards questions about uploads and for verification of the completeness of the submitted data. Members States may therefore be contacted in case questions arise as to the completeness of the data.

In addition, you are invited to send us a link to your national drinking water reports for the period 2014-2016. Those reports had to be published by the Member States within one calendar year of the end of the reporting period to ENV-DRINKING-WATER@ec.europa.eu.

For any complementary questions concerning this reporting exercise, please do not hesitate to contact DG Environment, Mr Anna Marczak [3], phone: +32 2 296 36 67.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and look forward to your replies.
