FOR THE ATTENTION OF THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS
AND THE AUTHORIZED WISE DATA PROVIDERS FOR THE DRINKING WATER DIRECTIVE

Subject:            Drinking Water Reporting; WISE Reporting

According to Article 13 of the Drinking Water Directive 98/83/EC, Member States have the obligation to publish a report every three years on the quality of water intended for human consumption with the objective of informing the consumers. The report has to be published by the Member States within one calendar year of the end of the reporting period and sent to the Commission within two months of the publication.

For the reporting period 2011 – 2013, you are invited to send us your national drinking water report, and to deliver further data at the latest by 28 February 2015.

Please find below further details on the present data delivery to the Commission:

At the Expert Group meeting of 27 June 2014, the Commission and the Member States reviewed the Guidance Document on reporting under the DWD and agreed on minor updates to improve comprehensiveness and harmonization of reported data, allowing increased transparency of information dissemination for the public. It includes also reporting of additional information that is not mandatory, but highly recommended.

The updated guidance document on reporting under the Drinking Water Directive 98/83/EC is available at the Eionet Forum, DWD data request 2014 folder. The updated reporting template with all additional information is available at the Eionet Data Dictionary (DD).

Reporting under the Directive will be carried out by uploading data into WISE via Reportnet (the European Environment Agency's electronic infrastructure for data collection). This approach is consistent with the WISE approach agreed for the Water Framework Directive and other water Directives data requests. The guidance document on how to use Reportnet under the Drinking Water Directive is available at the Eionet Forum, DWD data request 2014 folder.

All data files should be uploaded to the Central Data Repository (CDR). Drinking Water Directive folders are already available from the previous reporting in your national folder under the section ‘European Union (EU) obligations’/’Drinking Water Directive Report (98/83/EC)’ (link to the CDR folder for France).

Once your data files have been uploaded, an automatic QA/QC procedure starts and a list of errors will be automatically and immediately uploaded. We recommend checking the results, correct problems (if any) and redeliver corrected data. You can find a description of this automatic QA/QC rules at the Eionet Forum, DWD data request 2014 folder. A further level of manual data quality checks will be carried out by the ETC/ICM after your release of the data in the CDR.

In case of problems or any other technical difficulties with Eionet web services, please contact Eionet Helpdesk For any questions regarding the Data Dictionary and the quality assurance/quality control, please contact the ETC/ICM, Jeanette Völker or Jiri Kvapil.

For any complementary questions concerning this reporting exercise, please do not hesitate to contact DG Environment, Mr Tobias Biermann, phone: +32 2 2962573, or Mr Bruno Rakedjian, phone +32 2 2958160.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and look forward to your replies.
